New Year's parties are just around the corner, which means it's time to prepare children for this event. Dancing around the Christmas tree, funny competitions and, of course, gifts remained bright flashes in the memory of each of us. And in order not to deprive our children of this wonderful fun, on the eve of the holidays, all mothers try to make interesting New Year's costumes for their kids with their own hands. This fabulous process can be exciting for all family members: older children can act as designers, expressing their preferences, kids will be interested in beautiful rain, and moms and dads will have to bring all their ideas to life.

We will talk further about how to sew a New Year's costume for a baby with your own hands. The article will discuss the main points of cutting, the sequence of assembling all the parts, tips for processing seams and interesting ideas for looks.

Selection of materials

New Year's costumes for children must be made of soft fabrics to make the child cozy and comfortable. This means that preference should be given to cotton-based velor, velsoft or fleece. For a thinner suit, a cooler or interlock is suitable. In any case, New Year's costumes for children should be made from soft knitted fabrics. The choice of fabric directly depends on the image you have in mind.

Costume ideas

New Year's costumes for babies under one year old are best made in the form of overalls, because a child at this age is almost always in your arms, and constantly tucking a blouse into pants is not very convenient. Even if this is an outfit for a baby, the skirt can be sewn directly onto the overalls. This foundation can be played with in any way you like.

It could be a little Santa Claus, a dog, a dragon, a snowflake, a ladybug, a bunny, a bear, a Snow Maiden or superheroes: Batman, Superman and Spider-Man. The main thing is to choose the right fabric and make appropriate accents.

  1. Santa. Such a New Year's costume for a baby up to one year old can consist of a onesie with white edges sewn on the sleeves, around the neck, along the hips and on the legs, with a black belt made of soft leather sewn to the base, and a plaque made of yellow soft felt. The hat should be in the form of a cap with a fur pompom. It can be made with ties so that it does not fall off the baby. For such an outfit you will need a meter of red fabric for the base, about 30 cm of white velsoft or fine-pile fur, 2 cm of leather and a piece of felt for finishing. It is better to make the overalls with a hidden zipper in the front so that the baby can lie comfortably in it.
  2. Superman. New Year's costumes for kids are good because they do not require fine detailing. The basic elements are enough to make the image recognizable. So, for example, Batman can be made of gray fabric with black legs from the knees and sleeves from the elbows. You can sew a yellow strip of fabric along the waistband. And on the chest make a black bat on a yellow oval.
  3. Charming little Snowflake will not leave anyone indifferent. A white jumpsuit with a tulle tutu skirt sewn at the waist, a lace collar and cuffs, and a snowflake sewn from sequin ribbon on the chest is the best solution for a baby.

And these are just some of the ideas. New Year's costumes for kids, photos of which are presented in the article, will be a good example and source of inspiration. Using your imagination, you can create unique, unique outfits.

Pattern of the basis for the suit

New Year's costumes for kids are very simple to make and do not require complex calculations and taking measurements. Building a jumpsuit template couldn't be easier. To do this, you will need to take a jumpsuit or a T-shirt and pants that you have in your wardrobe (matching them along the waistline), lay them out on paper, turned inside out, and trace along the outline. Next, you should determine the depth of the neckline at the front and back and the seams connecting the base to the sleeves. Next, all the details are cut out of paper. In this case, the part with the body must be folded in half so that the sides are symmetrical. Next, they are cut along the fold and a front shelf is made from one, deepening the neck, and the second is left for the back template.

Cutting fabric

Once the pattern is ready, you can start cutting. New Year's costumes for kids require special processing, so you need to give a good allowance for the seams, about 1.5 cm. The parts can be joined with an overlock, but it is better to process the sections. To turn up the sleeves, you should also give an allowance of about 3 cm, or cut out additional strips of fabric to decorate the cuffs .

The size of the decorative elements is determined during the work. By attaching a piece of material to the details of the overalls, you can adjust the required size of the badges and the length of the belt. Patterns of New Year's costumes for kids are not much different from each other. Design plays a significant role here and needs to be given due attention.

Build process

Work on combining the cut parts begins with connecting the shoulder seams. But here you can make a retreat and first sew all the decorative elements to the parts. Fragments of a belt, skirt, edges, and so on are sewn to the back and shelves. Then you can move on to the main stages of assembly. First, close the shoulder seams and trim the neckline or a strip of fabric, then sew a zipper into the middle slit of the front, then sew the gusset to the front part of the overalls. It is a small diamond that is inserted into the bow seam of the panties. This will allow the baby to move his legs easily and provide free space for a diaper.

Then they move on to connecting the side cuts and the middle crotch seam. At this stage, we can consider that the suit is ready.

As you can see, making New Year's costumes for kids with your own hands is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance. And even if you have absolutely no experience, the key to success will be desire and the right fabric.

  • For inexperienced craftswomen, it is best to take fleece or velor for work. The thin pile of these materials will hide possible sewing flaws.
  • It is better not to iron the product, but to rinse it after production, so as not to melt the fabric.
  • For decorative elements, you should use fabric that does not fray. It can be the same velor of a different color or supplex.
  • If any sign is planned on the chest, then the hidden zipper can be moved to the side or sewn in so that when fastened, the elements are evenly connected.
  • It is better to sew all decorative motifs with a small zigzag, this will make the seams more elastic.

Knitted suit

A knitted New Year's costume for a baby will look no less interesting. It can also be used in its manufacture. It is important to choose the right threads. There are special requirements for them: they must be soft and natural. To make the costume look more impressive, it is better to make it multi-layered, that is, decorative elements are knitted separately and applied on top of the base.

Knitted Christmas tree suit

An openwork dress with a tightly knitted top and a skirt with a “Pineapple” pattern or with a bell-shaped bottom knitted with regular loops and a yarn over from “Grass” yarn is an excellent option for a Christmas tree look. Sewn beads and snowflakes will perfectly complement your baby's outfit. It is suitable for girls who can already walk. A conical hat on the head made of the same yarn, reinforced with cardboard and a bright star on the top of the head is an excellent accessory that complements the look. This dress will be paired with a tulle petticoat, which will help maintain the cone shape.

Knitted suit Snowflakes

A white long-sleeve T-shirt, a crisp stand-up openwork knitted collar, representing three connected motifs, and sewn snowflakes crocheted from white fine yarn on the skirt will make the look unique. As an accessory, you can use a headband with a snowflake decorated with rhinestones.

Don’t be afraid, you need to turn on your imagination, add diligence and perseverance, and you’ll get gorgeous New Year’s costumes for kids. Photos of the New Year holidays will remain in the family archive and will warm the soul with warm memories.

Knitted hat with ears like Shrek for a 4-year-old boy (head circumference 52 cm). Description of crochet

Many parents have probably encountered a problem when in spring or autumn, in cool weather, children do not want to put on a hat, looking at adults or older children. I propose to solve this problem by making a hat that the baby will not want to take off even indoors - a fun and original knitted hat with ears like Shrek's!

I am sure that any little boy will be very happy to go for a walk or to kindergarten wearing such a hat. By the way, my experience shows that even some girls 4-5 years old would like to have such a hat :-)
In any case, with Shrek's hat, increased attention to your child and smiles from passers-by are guaranteed!

By adding a hat to a white blouse, a dark vest and pants, we get a Shrek carnival costume. For girls, you can make a Princess Fiona costume by pairing a matching dark green dress with a hat with ears.
Agree, such a costume will look very bright and original, against the backdrop of traditional snowflakes, princesses and bunnies.

In addition, it will take very little time to knit Shrek's hat - just a couple of hours is enough. It is very easy to knit and can be done even by those who are just starting to crochet.
Material costs are also minimal - only one skein of yarn is needed.

To crochet a hat with ears we will need:
- light green yarn - approx. 50 gr.
(I used 100% wool for children Baby Ull, 50 g = approx. 175 m, in 2 threads);
- hook No. 4;

Tip: For other head circumference, use the formula below to calculate the maximum diameter:

Calculation of the maximum cap diameter: from the formula for circumference C=2πR=πD, where C is the circumference, R is the radius, D is the diameter, π is the constant Pi (3.14), we have D=C/π, i.e. D=52/3.14=16.56 cm.
